As the club prepares for life after relegation, and in order to align to the clubs philosophy for the coming seasons, Manager Terry Brown has released the following First Team players, prior to the end of the season:
- Lloyd Macklin
- Shaun McAuley
- Glen Southam
From everyone at the club, we thank all three for their efforts and wish them well in the future.
Below are some of Terry’s words from the BTFC vs. Truro City Match Day Programme, giving an insight into the clubs new philosophy:
“The philosophy of the club is to look at our own academy players first and then to supplement the squad with the most talented young players who have been released from local Premier, Championship and League clubs.
I have been watching under 21 games for the last 6 months, and several players I have seen will be looking for full time contracts in the summer. What we can offer them is a unique opportunity to train full time under first class coaches, in a supportive disciplined environment that will help them grow both on and off the field. Some will progress quickly and be sold onto professional clubs, the later developers will form the spine of our team that will enable us to progress through the pyramid, playing passing football and hopefully enjoying several exciting cup runs.
The ground work for this scheme has been formulated with David’s help, and I cannot emphasis enough that this project will be run in conjunction with Jason and between us we will ensure that every player that pulls on our blue shirt realises how lucky he is to represent Basingstoke Town. To enable the club to succeed and win games in the Evo Stik or Ryman League we will need some experienced players to help our new players adjust to mens’ football – we will keep you fully informed as and when we secure any signings for next season.”
Further updates on the squad will be communicated as/when they occur.
